Book Review- Once upon a time in College by Gumlat Maio

Book Details-
Book Name- Once upon a time in College
Author- Gumlat Maio
Genre- Teen Romance Fiction
Publisher- NotionPress
Pages- 375
Price- ₹355

Blurb- Between handling cadavers with bare hands, pestering female batch mates as an unknown caller, only to be caught red-handed and to be delivered tongue-lashings by seniors, and a hostel littered with human bones, Gaam, a first-year medical student who has never ventured out of northeastern India before, develops a crush for a north Indian girl; only to be thwarted in his efforts by his flirty room-mate.

He meets the first love of his life – Sonam, an insecure, unpredictable Darjeeling girl – only to add to his confusion, leading to a break up, with no explanation from Sonam.

Gaam's life is forever bombarded with confusing advice from a busy senior and a roommate on how to handle girls.

Will Sonam ever disclose the reason for the break up?

Will Gaam ever learn how to handle women?

Irreverent and humorous, Once Upon a Time in College is replete with Gaam and his friends’ stupid, unforeseen misadventures."

Review- Once upon a time in College is yet another Teen Romance Fiction which revolves around College, Love and Break up and Hostel.

Though book has nothing new to give, author has good storytelling skills which holds the readers with the book.

I received free review copy of this book from Kalamos Literary Services in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Book Title and Cover- Book Title is interesting and appropriate with the book. Cover is catchy and suggests us about the genre and content.
Both Title and Cover catches attention of readers.
Blurb is short and could be made more interesting.

Language and Narration- Language used in the book is simple and easy to comprehend.
Narration is done in First Person Narrative and is done well but could be improved in next book for better reading experience.

Characters- Author has tried well to portray the College Goer characters and he succeeds to do so. However, Characters of the book lack depth and thus I was unable to relate to them even though theme is pretty much relatable.

Storyline and Plot- Plot of this book is simple and has nothing new to give. However, Storytelling is what binds you with the book. Scenes are written well and they flow smoothly.

The way author went on telling every single thing about our protagonist, it felt more like a Diary than a novel.

You can read this book to relive and cherish college days but do not expect extraordinary plot.

Review-
Book Title and Cover- 3.5/5
Language and Narration- 3/5
Characterization- 3/5
Storyline and Plot- 2.5/5

Final Rating- 3/5

All in all, Once upon a time in College is average read and could be enjoyed by readers who want to relive college days/memories.
